A Toast to the New Year

Each year, we have a chance to start fresh. New Year's brings out the ambition that people seem to lack throughout the rest of the year. Resolutions are made; some kept, some forgotten, and some to which we give 'exceptions' for (like diets). No matter what resolutions are made, one thing remains: the excitement for the year to come. So as I was thinking of my own list of resolutions to make, I thought that it's also important to look at the year that we're leaving behind. What did 2011 bring and teach you? Resolutions are all about change, but are there things in the past year that you we're really great at, and want to continue? It may seem challenging, but I believe in making new resolutions AND keeping up with the old. Couldn't hurt to try, right? Oh, and as for the cake pops ... I could only salvage a few that actually looked decent. The recipe made it seem much easier than it actually was. I'll add it to the resolution list to become a better baker.

Happy New Year!

Now Dasher, Now Dancer ..

Every Christmas Eve we celebrate at my grandma's house, and every year I sit back and enjoy all of the food and desserts with ease. This year, I feel as though I need to make a contribution (just like Thanksgiving). I did some research on delicious yet fun desserts, and I think I found the perfect treat. I'm the oldest grandchild, but I know all of younger kids will definitely enjoy these reindeer cake pops. This will be my first attempt at making cake pops. I've been observing the frenzy these desserts have been causing recently, and have been waiting for a reason or an occasion to rise to the challenge. I will post the pictures of my final results after the holidays; until then, have a very Merry Christmas and a fabulous New Years ... and wish me luck! xo.

Wish List

Sunday's are designated for 'resting', so after I ran all of my errands I did just that. Christmas has literally taken over my weekends and free time, but I can't complain. I love the shopping and somewhat craziness that comes with the holidays. So while I was 'resting', I came up with a few things to put on my own wish list:

Thanksgiving Treats

This Thanksgiving, I was given the task of cooking two items. This will be the first time I am contributing to a holiday dinner; while some groan about the fact that they will have to bring a dish, I on the other hand am extremely excited about it. I have already decided on a dessert; I found the recipe to a Maple-Bourbon Pecan Pie (recipe shown here). Pecan pie is truly one of my favorite desserts, and the maple syrup and bourbon twist will definitely sweeten this already delicious treat. I am also cooking the stuffing, as a request. I'm still searching for a really great recipe, but I am leaning towards the classic Herb Stuffing. Stuffing is the one classic dish on Thanksgiving that I always look forward to. With all of this food talk, we can't forget what Thanksgiving is really about - being thankful for everything we have in our lives. I'm thankful for my family, best friends, my boyfriend, and all of the great memories and conversations I've had with them. I hope your Thanksgiving is as wonderful and delicious as it should be! xo.

Holiday Bliss

This time of year is my absolute favorite. I live for the holiday scents, food, decor and parties. Even though it is a bit early, I'm already thinking about Christmas. One thing that gets me in the mood for the holidays are the amazing candle scents that come out this time of year. Currently, my bedroom smells like Candied Sugar Plum, my kitchen like Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, and my living room like Merry Mistle Toe. These yummy yet affordable scents are by Slatkin & Co., and can be found at Bath & Body Works. You can even bring the scents with you while you're on the road with their SCENTPORTABLE's. If you're as big of a Christmas fan as I am, I highly recommend starting off your holiday cheer with these perfect candles.
